About Sweet Solitude: We live in a world where we must be seen to be ‘busy’, where we’re constantly connected, where social networking and mobile phones dominate our time.  What if we could take a moment and stop the world?  Stop the noise?  What if we could take a little space and remember what it’s like to drift, to dream, to just breathe?  

Sweet Solitude is the antithesis to modern-day mania.  It considers our human need for solitude: our need to escape; our need to find a peaceful place where we can regain our strength; our need to clear our calendars and our minds; our need to restore ourselves. 

Solitude should not be mistaken for isolation: solitude is about being alone by choice.  It is the validation of those precious moments of peace and quiet; it is the recognition of our need for time on our own – if only for a little while.  It it the time to connect with our selves, to remember to connect with each other, and to feel the Earth again.

The Alchemy Ensemble examines the subjects of escape, isolation and finally Sweet Solitude through a fusion of live vocal music (Henry Purcell & Samuel Barber), dance, poetry and nature: we will bring all of these artistic and natural elements together to create a magical secluded wonderland.
