SJAH

OperaDans presents: SJAH (premiered at Korzo5HOOG, The Hague, November 2010)

4 dancers and 5 musicians bring you face to face with Sheherazade’s king!

The Hague’s own music and dance ensemble, OperaDans, presents SJAH, from the stories of the Arabian Nights!  These dark stories will come to life with live Middle Eastern percussion, singing, modern dance and urban dance. All original music by master percussionist Ruben van Rompaey.

The timeless tales of The 1001 Arabian Nights has inspired movies, music and theatre. Although these stories are typically for children, OperaDans presents the dark side of the Arabian Nights with themes such as romantic love, jealousy, passion, internal conflict, friendship, greed, and murder.

SJAH takes you on a magical journey through time, back to the root of the ancient Middle Eastern tales.  But there will be no magic carpet rides here! OperaDans presents The Nights as it has never been seen before: through the eyes of the jealous king, Shahryar!
